Coffee news: Korea sharply increased imports of roasted coffee

Statistics from the International Trade Center show that Korea imported 152.25 thousand tons of coffee, worth 966.36 million USD in the first 9 months of 2022, up 10.9% in volume and 49 %. 8% in value over the same period in 2021.

In which, Korea mainly imports unroasted and decaffeinated coffee (HS code 090111), reaching about 130.63 thousand tons of coffee imported from Korea in the first 9 months of 2022, more than the market share of 84.89 % in the first 9 months of 2021.

In addition, Korea also sharply increased imports of roasted and ground coffee (HS 090112) with an increase of 93.5% in volume and an increase of 160.3% in import value compared to the same period in 2021.

Regarding the supply structure, in the first 9 months of 2022, Korea focused on importing coffee from major coffee-growing countries in the world such as Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, etc.

Brazil is the largest source of coffee for Korea, importing 33,77,000 tons worth $164 million in the first nine months of 2022, up 19.8% in volume and 119.6% in value over the same period in 2021. Brazilian Coffee The share of Korea’s total imports increased from 20.54% in the first nine months of 2021 to 22.18% in the first nine months of 2022.

During this period, Korea imported 25.55 thousand tons of coffee from Vietnam, worth $ 59.37 million, down 8.6% in volume but up 30.8% in value over the same period last year 2021. Vietnam’s coffee market share in Korea’s total imports decreased from 20.36% in the first 9 months of 2021 to 16.78% in the first 9 months of 2022.
